WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Planning) is a structured self-management and recovery system developed by Mary Ellen Copeland and people with lived experience of mental health challenges. It is used worldwide to help people improve and maintain their own wellness, and to support others doing the same.
WRAP helps participants explore how they are when they feel well, identify daily tools that help maintain wellness, and develop personalised plans for challenging times. It is grounded in the principles of hope, personal responsibility, education, self-advocacy, and support.
Core elements of WRAP:
- Wellness Toolbox — identifying what helps you feel well
- Daily Maintenance Plan — what you need to do every day to stay well
- Triggers and Early Warning Signs — recognising when things are getting difficult
- Crisis Plan — what to do when you are in crisis
- Post Crisis Plan — planning your recovery after a difficult period
WRAP is typically delivered as a group programme over several weeks by trained WRAP facilitators. It is also available online through the Online Recovery College.
